Echoes of Silence works
To amplify the cries of the 'disappeared', the disregarded, the marginalized;
To give tongue to the silent anguish of our devastated forests, air and oceans;
To celebrate the INTERDependence of all Earth's life forms: plant, animal, human;
To reveal, encourage and promote the creativity lodged in all our hearts,
so stifled by consumerism but vital today as never before
to bring healing to the Earth.

In the light of that vision, Echoes' founders, Paul Baker and his Nicaraguan wife, Fátima Hernández, have toiled shoulder-to-shoulder with impoverished people in Nicaragua for more than 30 years. Before that, as a teenager, Fátima fought to rid Nicaragua of the vicious Somoza dictatorship, crippling herself in so doing, while Paul lived with Salvadoran exiles attacked by death squads in Los Angeles, California, as a human shield. They have three children, Isaacs (30) and Rebeca (27) from former marriages, and Joel (18), fully Nicaraguan, completely English. Isaac works in a machine parts warehouse; Rebeca and her husband, Mauricio, also crippled, sell secondhand phones; Joel is beginning his studies to become a pediatrician.
Echoes' loyal network of family, friends and colleagues enables Fátima and Paul to work pro bono through their loving moral, material and financial support. Fatima's craftwork and Paul's music/speaking tours within the US and European peace and justice community also contribute to projects and to family survival.

• Coordinate local health, education, ecology programs and projects
• Organize and guide workshops for young people
• Organize/accompany/translate for international delegations and other groups,

• Fundraise for projects and emergency relief.
• Dig/construct community wastewater drainage systems and promote the re-use of plastic bottles as building materials

• NAGS, NIPPERS and MOTHER EARTH: Bringing rescued street horses and rescued children together in mutual therapy on an ecological farm. While learning tenderness and animal care, the children also develop simple techniques to liberate their families and barrio communities from water-borne diseases, exploitative drug companies and other parasites; cook with gas from animal waste; harvest rainwater to run drip-irrigation systems; produce nourishing food sustainably; reduce deforestation/reforest, and much more. Meantime, the ponies can begin to recover from their brutal lives and find a little peace at last. Thus, with time, the farm will become a center for the eradication of child/animal cruelty, offering veterinary and care services to the local community.

JUSTICE for VICTOR JARA: Soldiers broke Víctor's hands and played Russian roulette with him, before machine-gunning him to death during the Nixon/Kissinger/Pinochet coup of September 11th[!] 1973. Why? Because the power and beauty of his songs moved people to work for justice. Help his family extradite his killer from the USA to Chile, and assist hundreds more in their search for true justice, especially those still looking for their 'disappeared' loved ones.
