Building that 'possible' World

Echoes of Silence works to:

Amplify the cries of the 'disappeared', the disregarded, the marginalized;  

Give tongue to the silent anguish of our devastated forests, air and oceans;  

Celebrate  the INTERDependence of all Earth's lifeforms: plant, animal, human;

Reveal, encourage and promote the creativity lodged in all our hearts, so stifled by consumerism but vital today as never before to bring healing to the Earth.

In the light of that vision, Echoes' founders, Paul Baker and his Nicaraguan wife, Fátima Hernández, have toiled shoulder-to-shoulder with impoverished people in Nicaragua for more than 30 years. Before that, as a teenager, Fátima fought to rid Nicaragua of the vicious Somoza dictatorship, crippling herself in so doing. They have three children, Isaacs (30) and Rebeca (25) from former marriages, and Joel (18), fully Nicaraguan, completely English. Isaac works in a machine parts warehouese; Rebeca and her husband, Mauricio, also crippled, sell secondhand phones; Joel plans to become a pediatrician.

 

Echoes' loyal network of  family, friends and colleagues enables Fátima and Paul to work pro bono through their loving moral, material and financial support.  Fatima's craftwork and Paul's music/speaking tours within the US and European peace and justice community also contribute to projects and to family survival.

•    Cordinate local health, education, ecology programs and projects
•    Dig/construct community waste water drainage systems
•    Build with recycled plastic bottles
•    Organize/accompany/translate for international delegations and other groups,
•    Write songs, provide sound and transport for community and national events,
•    Organize and guide workshops,
•  Offer analysis/news to the international community via the written/spoken word, songs        of revolution and beauty, speaking/singing tours of the USA and Europe

•    NAGS 'n' NIPPERS: Bringing rescued street horses and rescued children together in mutual therapy on an ecological farm. While learning tenderness, the children  also experience simple systems to liberate families from water-borne diseases, exploitative drug companies and other parasites; cook with gas from animal waste; harvest rainwater to run drip-irrigation systems; produce nourishing food sustainably; reduce deforestation/reforest; and much more 

•    DECLARE INTERDEPENDENCE: Resist xenophobia and isolationism. Declare yourself citizen of the one, single Earth!  No! to arms/sales. Yes! to water for all. Tremendous! Soldiers become eco-warriors.Take back the day!  Break consumerism's control of our celebrations: ONE Planet! ONE People! Fly the flag. Sing the anthem!

•    JUSTICE FOR BERTA CACERES and VICTOR JARA: Berta was murdered for her environmental and indigenous rights  work in Honduras together with several colleagues. Join their families in the struggle to receive justice.

    Victor was murdered for the power and beauty of his songs for justice. Join his family in their campaign to extradite his killer from the USA to face justice in Chile.
